At the end of Wednesday's Oxford Geek Night, my open secret finally ceased to be a secret at all: I'm going freelance!
I'll continue to work part-time at Torchbox until the end of November, to ensure a safe handover of all projects. But I'm available immediately for part-time work; after December, full-time: on any projects that come my way.
I can't emphasize enough how much I will miss Torchbox, having worked there nearly nine years. I've been agonizing over this decision for months, but the urge to spread my wings just wouldn't go away. It sounds cheesy but in a lot of ways, Torchbox has become like a family to me: if I'm leaving then it's only because sooner or later it's only healthy to want to leave the family home and set up on your own. And I can't deny that it's my time at Torchbox that's provided me with the skills and experience to do what I'm doing now. (Torchbox are hiring in Bristol and Oxford, by the way: you should apply.)
In that spirit of setting up on my own, I'd love for you to get in touch, if you've got a project in Drupal, PHP, or Python/Django that you'd like to be tackled by someone with senior developer and agile process experience. If you need any more convincing, have a read of my CV, and then drop me a line!
